Each year since 1985, the UH Center on Disability Studies has organized the Pacific Rim Conference on Disabilities. Over the past few years the size of the event has grown tremendously and includes not only Hawaii & U.S. Mainland but also the Pacific Islands Nations, Japan, Australia, the Philipppines, and many other countries. Pacific Rim Conference participants include not only persons with disabilities, but also family members, researchers, service providers, joint policy-makers, and recognized speakers in the field of disabilites. They come and learn from each other and share resources for communities to fully accept and support persons with disabilities.
