During the past year, Dr. Stodden worked on policy development activities concerning the reauthorization of the Developmental Disabilites Act and served as a policy advisor for the International Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). He was elected as the incoming president for the American Association of University Affiliated Programs (AAUAP). Dr. Stodden led the development of two newly funded projects and participated in the development and submission of nine new grants proposals to the United States Department of Education (USDOE).

Beginning in 1989, Dr. Leake has been involved in a number of research and demonstration projects and activities of the Center on Disability Studies focused on improving post-high school outcomes for youth with disabilities. He also conducted research and evaluation activities for the Hawaii Ohana Project, funded at approximately $14 million by the Center on Mental Health Services for 1994-2000 to develop and demonstrate local "systems of care" for youngsters with serious emotional disturbances. More recently, Dr. Leake has coordinated the evaluation of the Hawaii Department of Education’s Comprehensive Student Support System (CSSS) and authored several annual evaluation reports, and has also collaboratively authored/edited over half a dozen grant applications. His community service activities include serving on the State Interagency Transition Committee and the Steering Committee of the State Improvement Grant for Special Education.
